The Family Planning Program of the Fulton County Health
Department provides a variety of preventive health care services for women of child bearing age who are in need of contraceptive methods. Services include:
Pap Smears Pregnancy Tests Physical Exams Counseling/Education Breast Exams Screening and Treatment for
Sexually Transmitted Diseases Referrals
How Can I Become A Family Planning Client? An appointment must be made to receive a physical exam and
a pap smear. This exam is done by a nurse practitioner under a physician's protocol. Contraceptive supplies and abstinence education are provided at the initial exam and on routine supply pick-up days scheduled
throughout the year. Supplies can be picked up at the Health Department office in Canton or at sub-offices located in Cuba and Astoria. An exam with a pap smear is required yearly for clients to remain on the Family
Planning Program.
What Birth Control Methods Are Available? The Fulton
County Health Department's Family Planning Program provides counseling and education on abstinence and contraceptive choices for a variety of birth control methods. Referrals are also provided for those services not
offered by the department. Contraceptive methods include:
Abstinence Birth Control Pills Contraceptive Foam Depo Provera Injections Condoms Diaphragms
Contraceptive Suppositories And referrals for other methods not offered
Is there a charge for these services?
Fees for family planning services provided by the Fulton County Health Department are determined by:
(1) FAMILY SIZE: All members living in one household
(2) GROSS INCOME:
Wages, salaries, unemployment compensation, Social Security Income, etc. Many clients are eligible to receive services at no charge. Mediplan will cover the cost for those persons who have a Public Aid card.
