The Infectious Diseases Program goal
is to prevent the spread of communicable diseases that may occur in Fulton County. This is accomplished through preventive screening programs and activities, constant monitoring of patterns and trends in
disease, intervention efforts, and referral to health care providers. The success of any effort to control communicable disease occurance is also dependent upon collaboration from the citizens of Fulton County.
There are currently 58 infectious
diseases under surveillance by IDPH. Health care providers are required to report the incidence of these diseases in their patients to the local health department.
The Communicable Diseases nurse then follows up with the patient and obtains data to aid in preventing the spread of the disease into the
community
Prevention, education, treatment options, and methods of containment are services provided to healthcare providers and to our community.
The Infectious Diseases Program also assists with education and prevention activities in schools, day cares, nursing homes, and other
organizations in our community.
