These days everyone has to be concerned about HIV and AIDS. Married or single, straight or gay, man or
woman, young or old, you may be at risk. The only way to know for sure if you have been infected with HIV (the virus that causes AIDS) is to get an HIV antibody test. DID YOU KNOW THAT... HIV is the virus that causes AIDS. You can have HIV for many years without showing signs of AIDS or getting sick.
You can spread HIV to another person without ever knowing you have it. HIV is spread by:
*Having vaginal, anal, or oral sex with an infected person. *Sharing drug injection supplies (needles, syringes, cookers, rinse water, and cotton) with an infected person.
*An infected mother to her baby during pregnancy, birth, or breast feeding. YOU MAY HAVE HAVE BECOME INFECTED WITH HIV IF YOU HAVE:
Unexplained night sweats, fever and weight loss. Persistent sore throat, sores in the throat or mononucleosis. Recurrent skin rashes. Persistent diarrhea. Chronic dry cough. Pneumonia Tuberculosis
Recurrent Yeast infections A sexually transmitted disease. YOU CAN PREVENT GETTING HIV! * Make sure you use a latex condom every time you have vaginal, oral or anal sex. * Only use water based lubricants. Never re-use a condom. * Sex without a condom is safe only if you and your partner are not infected with HIV or other sexually transmitted disease. The way for both of you to be sure is to get tested, Never have sex with other people and never share needles or shoot drugs.
* You can learn some fun ways to be close without intercourse that won't put you at risk for getting HIV. * Choose not to have sex at all!
THE ONLY WAY TO SURE OF YOUR HIV STATUS IS TO GET TESTED AND GO BACK FOR YOUR TEST RESULTS. CALL YOUR LOCAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT FOR AN APPOINTMENT. ALL TESTING IS ANONYMOUS, WHICH MEANS YOU DON'T HAVE TO GIVE YOUR NAME.
