 FOOD PROTECTION PROGRAM
The Fulton County Health Department's Division of Environmental Health is responsible for administering the Food Protection Program. The goal of the program is to implement a comprehensive food service education and compliance program which helps to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the dining public.

The department offers a number of educational opportunities to the industry each year to assist their workforce in learning the latest information available in food service operations. Additionally the department conducts an inspection and compliance program which also helps to ensure a safe food supply to the dining public. This part of our program utilizes county health ordinances and Rules & Regulations adopted by The Illinois Department of Public Health.

To print a copy of either a regular or temporary FCHD Food Service Application, click on the appropriate link below.  The temporary food permit application is used for any event including Spoon River Drive. The temporary food permit fees are:

  • 1 one-day event is allowed in the 1st 6 months of the year and 1 one-day event in the 2nd 6 months of the year at NO CHARGE.
  • Any event up to 2 days is $35.00 (unless it is the free one-day event)
  • Any event three days or more is $50.00 (e.g. Spoon River Drive, Fairs, Cornerstone, Small Town homecomings)

Potable Water Supply
If you need a septic or well evaluation, you may download the application here and bring or mail this form to the Fulton County Health Department.  You must submit payment with the application.

The Fulton County Health Department's Division of Environmental Health is responsible for administering the Potable Water Supply Program. This program is responsible for both private drinking water supplies and localized efforts to protect our groundwater supply.  The goal of the program is to implement a comprehensive potable water education and compliance program which helps to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the public. Although the department does engage in collaborative efforts with municipalities, municipal drinking water systems are under the jurisdiction of the municipality and The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.

The department provides educational opportunities and assisitance each year to both the general public and private industry in an effort to provide the latest information available on potable water supply protection. Additionally the department conducts an inspection and compliance program which also helps to ensure a safe potable water supply to the public. This part of our program utilizes county health ordinances and Rules & Regulations adopted by The Illinois Department of Public Health.

This program is responsible for both private private sewage supply systems and localized efforts to protect our groundwater supply. The goal of the program is to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the public. by implementing a comprehensive private sewage disposal education and compliance program which helps to prevent the tranmission of disease organisms, environmental contamination, and nuisances. Although the department does engage in collaborative efforts with municipalities, municipal sewage disposal systems are under the jurisdiction of the municipality and The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.

The department provides educational opportunities and assisitance each year to both the general public and private industry  in an effort to provide the latest information available on private sewage disposal systems. Additionally the department conducts an inspection and compliance program which also helps to ensure proper design and installation of private sewage disposal systems. Solid Waste Program
The Fulton County Municipal Waste Management Plan, which went into effect January 1, 1999, encourages recycling and other solid waste reduction practices within Fulton Coun The Fulton County Board enacted the Waste Management and Recycling Ordinance, providing for licensing of waste hauling businesses, registration of hauling vehicles and a recycling rate reporting system.  The ordinance became effective on January 1, 2000.

 More businesses and schools are recycling as a result of our community education campaign in the commercial and institutional sector.  A system for reporting solid waste reduction efforts and recycling has been developed.  Currently more than 75 facilities report that, excluding recyclable materials collected by licensed waste haulers, more than 2000 tons are recycled yearly.

 Continuing efforts to provide and advertise special collection events throughout the county.The Farm Bureau, in conjunction with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and with supporting efforts from the Health Department, work toward tire and household hazardous waste collections to be held on a periodic basis.  Our program provides information on community GABBY and leaf collections.    

The Fulton County Health Department has partnered with the Tri-County Regional Collection Facility for pick up of paints and electronic applicances for recycling Collection day is every Thursday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Fulton County Health Department, 700 East Oak Street, Canton, IL  61520. CHECK IN ROOM 100.

It is our goal to promote conservation of natural resources and minimize environmental damage by encouragement of the generation of the least amount of waste, reuse of waste materials, recycling, the purchase of recycled materials and disposal in a safe, sound manner.  In striving toward that goal, the Solid Waste Management Program has seen a rise in Fulton County's recycling rates form 3.7% in 1998 to a rate of 12.9% in 2001.

Fulton County Health Ordinances
The Fulton County Health Ordinances were adopted by the Fulton County    Board in June 2002. Ordinances contain rules and regulations deemed necessary or desirable for the promotion and protection of health and control of diseases.  Areas addressed by the health ordinances include:  private sewage disposal system, food sanitation, water supply, nusance control, solid waste, recreational areas, youth camp, mobile home park, vector control, bed and breakfast, and other miscellaneous provisions.
